At startup Windows looks in some location for the programs to run, including the Startup folder – its reason is to automatically run some local programs after loading the operating system, when the system is ready for its user. It is used when an Windows user always opens the same programs immediately after starting his/her computer – the startup folder should make the life easier.
To open the Windows startup folder you must do the following steps: click the Start button, click All programs, right click the Startup folder and then click Open.
To add shortcuts in the startup folder you must…
I’ve already written about understanding the screen resolution and its settings for windows and what the pixels mean. The measurement of monitor, scanner and digital imaging resolution is PPI, that means Pixels Per Inchi. The measurement of printed resolution is DPI, it means Dots Per Inch – the rule remains the same: the quality and the size of the printed medium depends of the number of the dots per inch. For the current every day usage and the draft printing there are used lower resolution settings as 150 or 300 DPI. High resolution settings start ar 600 DPI.
DPI is used instead PPI because the printers use tiny dots of ink to produce a printed image. As you easily can understand, a printer capable of 1200×1600 DPI can produce higher resolution than a printer that prints a file at 800×600 DPI.
Screen resolution (display resolution)
Screen resolution (or display resolution) refers to the size of the entire image displayed on your computer monitor. It refers to the number of individual picture elements (the pixels) that are displayed at once, on every single displayed image. Screen dimensions are the horizontal measurement followed by the vertical measurement – they are not resolution numbers, but merely something you can do with a tape measure. For example: a computer monitor display might be 14.75 inches wide and approximately 12 inches tall, that makes the diagonal measurement of 19 inches which gives you the screen size. A pixel is the smallest element on your computer screen and the quality and the detailes of an image increases with the number of the pixels. Having less pictures will make the displayed elements or/and image to look bigger, but there will be less space on your desktop for other windows or programs to run.
To start with the basics, consistency makes a website easier to use, to learn and to remember. Every successful website have a great consistency across all it’s web pages, it’s every easy to browse and to find what you want because every user is able to use and understand it. It is often said that consistency provides a balance between accessibility and usability in designing websites.
On the other hand, every web site should be accessible on all the devices with internet connection (that means smartphones, tables, iPads – not only personal computers and laptops). So, besides the standard rules that have applied until just a few years ago (about the browser compatibility), there are new rules a web designer must apply. Their ment is to get a consistent design and to help users to find the website accessible and usable.
Every good and experienced web designer knows that there are 2 layers in design a website: the core content or service (let’s call it the structure of the site) and the display layer (what every users sees). The core of the website should not change from device to device and from browser to browser, it must deliver a consistent content. On the other hand, let’s say a user browse your website using a smartphone and they get a piece of content they want to read or they want to wathc (an article or a video you posted), but they don’t have the time and/or the best connection to do so. Later they can try to finish reading the article or watching the video using a tablet or a laptop – the visual elements of design will be in some parts different (by necessity), but the routes the user tooks to find that specific content must be exactly the same.
If you still don’t know about what mini, micro and nano are in matter of value you can look for them in the table at the end of this article. The are usually used to measure distance and weight, but not only that, and lately they became something very common for the computer technology even when the people using these terms did not understand their real meaning. Some speak about the processors having the distance between their transistors measured in nano or about micro devices and I wonder if they really understand what they are talking about.
Historical, the first computers were so big they only fit in entire rooms and there were allocated sections of buildings for storing them. They worked with card and it was not easy to translate the human language to the holes in the cards and back to something readable. The first PC (personal computers) had the size of the current laptops (or a little bigger), but the current smartphones have a better processing power than an entire network of old PC. The transition from that computers to the current laptops, tablets and other devices was made possible through the progess of technology that allows the miniaturization of the circuits.
From the historical point of view the term cyberspace was coined by William Ford Gibson in his short story “Burning Chrome” (1982), nearly 30 years ago, and later popularized the concept in his debut novel, Neuromancer (1984). William Ford Gibson is an American-Canadian speculative fiction novelist who has been called the “noir prophet” of the cyberpunk subgenre. In the universe of his stories, Gibson created an iconography for the information age before the ubiquity of the Internet in the 1990s. He said in an interview you can find here (at least a part of it) that he was inspired by the video games (such Nintendo consoles) played by children and the only computer he had seen at that time was an Apple, it about the size of a modern time laptop.
About a month ago I’ve written about Nintendo game consoles and it’s a great moment to continue with the best accesories for Nintendo Wii. As you already know, the games have evolved a lot from the originalNintendo game series, you can play know a lot of games on the current existing Nintendo consoles and Nintendo Wii is one of the most known. But your console might not be enough to get you, as users, the best perspective of the game so you will need some accessories for it.
There are many ways to make soaps and candles (actually they have a lot in common), some of them are almost ancient and inherited by every generation, but a lot of methods are new – they appeared as the technology developed and new chemical were available. The methods are also different from the ones used by our grandparents to make soap.
When you are making soaps and candles and you are interested only how they smell, look and act in targeted environments you might not be interested what ingredients you use, only their quality and safety are important.
But if you are dedicated to make natural products in your home the ingredients become very important. So let’s start with the basics:
The guide about Nintendo game consoles seems rather incomplete without a detailed list of great Nintendo game series. I’ve written about some games that came with some consoles, but it seems not enough. As you already know, Nintendo games date back to the 1980s and during the last 3 decades a lot of great game series were introduced (some of the games have millions of fans all around the world) and contributed to the succes of the consoles. The games development continues further and I believe that Nintendo is preparing some good surprises to its clients.
Super Mario Bros
The first game of the series was Super Mario Bros on Nintendo NES, since them the Marion platform games have been included on most of the Nintendo game consoles. The debut games was a blockbuster, it dominated the 1980′s and set some records at that time. Since then the patform games have expanded on more advanced game consoles while the technology and the design developed beyond the dreams of the endusers. As the old time users says, one of the exiting games was Mario 61 which was the first 3D Mario platform game. Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS use the traditional 2D format, one of Mario’s greatest hits.
Super Mario Bros series celebrated its 25 anniversary in 2010, it is already certain that new games in the series will be available on the game consoles Nintendo Wii-U and Nintendo 3DS.
There were some spin-offs to this successful series, like Super Mario Kart, that also had some success.
As you already know, in the last few years a lot of tools were created in order to help improving someone’s work in designing websites (along with other fields of activity over internet). It’s seems very easy to install a Joomla, Drupal or WordPress on a server, to configure it, to select a proper theme and to write some content in order to have a website running allright and looking nice. It many cases it would be do-it-yourself website, meaning you can do all of these without any help from a professional. Some web hosting companies offer some services on a server and some software packages that generate websites for a very fair price (from the client’s point of view).
But being able to do it yourself doesn’t mean that you don’t need help from somebody working in the field. The packages that generate websites are cheap, but usually they are not complete: they are offering only the minimal options for a website. If you, as a client, want something else or something more, you will soon find the limitation of such packages as a bad thing. On the other way, big free packages such Joomla, Drupal or WordPress have to be configured properly and sometimes that can be very tricky for somebody that’s using them the first time or does not have intensive experience with them. They also offer only limited options, but the good thing is that this kind of free products created around them a community and the users created addition scripts that allows you as end-user to improve your website with a lot of efficient solutions. The problem is the big number of third party solutions (there are hundreds or thousands of plugins and components for each system) and you have to lose some time to search the best ones for you. If you don’t find what you are looking (as templates, components or modules) you have to hire a professional to do the job for you and you are back to square one.
There are people saying that the sports stars are the modern gladiators competing in a world wide arena, now the the mass-media transmision (at televion, radio and online) of the sport competitions and trainings. There is a good reason for this: everybody that practice a sport have something more that an “ordinary” man, someone that sits in front of the television set or the computer and just hits the keys. Sports stars have not only the fast reaction and the stamina: they have the fame and the money, some even may say they have the aura of demigods.
The statistics say that every major company (UFC, WWE and TNA) that has embarked on usage of social media (like Twitter and Facebook) has ended up having their key business metrics (ratings, PPVs) decline. There is a reason why that happened: the stars are slowly killing their aura as stars. The sportmen get people to talk about them, but they also make people less want to pay to see them because they understand they are realise that, after all, all athletes are still very human. The status of star was carefully developed in decades of mass-media education and entertainment and some people may lose their respect toward a sport star if they find he is just a man or a woman making the same mistake they are doing.
Some may consider that for being a good web designer you have to have some artistic sense in order to create an attractive design for the web pages, you have to be a programmer in order to understand what’s behind the page and the mechanisms of the internet servers and the world wide web, you have to be at least a SEO consultant (or even a SEO expert) in order to make the web sites optimized for the search engines. It’s true, all these skills can help a lot if you decide to create web sites and you can always learn about the subjects or you can always gather a team of people that can do everything for you.
But there are some things you can not replace and if you don’t have them in you don’t start web designing.
Everything over internet is communication: in their websites people are trying to send a message in a proper way. They might know the message (if you are lucky – some of my clients had an idea and that’s all) but they don’t know how to put it into practice. In this case you have to explain them how things are working on internet and what’s the best thing to do in order to get the most and the best results from their idea, how to spread the message to the people in the best way.
Having good communication skills means you may take the lead from time to time and, the most important, to have a lot of patience. Your subject of interest and job is the internet, but as a web designer you have to work also with people. So if you don’t know how to work with people try a different job.
For celebrities using Twitter (and social media in general) is a double-edged sword: they can connec with their fans (almost) any time, but everything they say will be dissected or misinterpreted by some people or by all his/her fans.
Celebrities should be careful when using Twitter in special because the message is short, only 140 characters, it’s a lot easier to misled people for whom your language is not their native language. I know you can not please all the people around you, especially as a celebrity, but you should consider that it’s very easy to start a debate if people are upset about some thing or another. One unhappy fan may gather around him other unhappy fans. So, when you are using Twitter be as clear as you can.
As a celebrity you should consider (if you don’t do it already) that everyone is following your tweets carefully. If you write something under the heat of the moment (the influence of emotions) you can tell people something you may don’t want to tell (at least for the moment or not at all) and everything can turn bad. In some cases such things already happened, but I am not going to give examples… you may know some of them and you can always search with yahoo, bing or google for others.
Twitter is a very good method to interact to your audience but don’t let it to take over your life. That’s an advice for everyone to consider, but celebrities should take care more seriously then others: they are followed by a lot of people because they are famous for doing something, not because their activity on Twitter.Managing the time and followers are a must from this point of view.
Article writing is a very easy, popular and cheap method to promote products and services over the internet. There are a lot of free blogging packages available on internet, you can use them online (as blogspot and wordpress) or you can download and install them on your domain (as wordpress). The first case is completely free, in the second case you have to pay the domain name reservation (and renewal if you have a limited reservation as .com, .net, .info TLDs) and the hosting.
Writing the text of articles and posting them on the internet takes some time (depending the subject and your experience), but once you set up a system it’s easy to do this task (or job) as often as you can. The content of your articles is a great method to improve the traffic of a website, even when they are on other websites (with the condition of putting backlinks to your site in the text).
Copyscape is an online software that’s been used by webmasters, writers, SEO experts and lots of other people to check if an article is unique or not. Everyone wants to be in front of the search results lists and the best way to do it is with lots and lost of unique content – it’s already well know that search engines put accent on the uniqueness and they don’t like plagiarism. The best case scenario nothing will happen if you copy content from others, the worst case scenario is a combination of law suits and penalties from the search engines.
Some people say that Copyscape is the best way to check if your content was copied by someone else or the article you are intended to by has been copied and used by the guy you hired. Others say that using it is a mistake and it’s not so buletproof the fans consider it to be. For the moment is one of the most popular plagiarism checkers and it’s taken into consideration by so many people you have to take also in consideration in order to make yourself a reputation as a blogger and a content writer.
The problem with Copyscape is that uses an algorithm and the search engines use different algorithms. Nobody would say exactly what statistical search algorithm uses or what are its changes during time time, but it seems fair to consider that using Copyscape along with the search engines will increase the chances to get a similar or identical content.
Din distribuţie fac parte: Pavel Sîrghi (Roy Selridge), Serban Borda (Joseph Wykowsky), Florian Silaghi (Don Carney), Razvan Vicoveanu (Eugene Morris Jerome), Ciprian Ciuciu (Arnold Epstein), Richard Balint (Sergentul Toomey), Adela Lazar (Daisy), Alexandru Rusu (James Hennesey).
As the main concurent of Microsoft Office, OpenOffice.org 3 (or the OO3, as it is also known) is the leading open-source office software suite for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, graphics, databases and more. It is available in many languages and works on all common computers, with different operating systems. It stores all your data in an international open standard format, it can also read and write files from other common office software packages. As the most important thing, besides its performance, Open Office can be downloaded and used completely free of charge for any purpose.
The entire OpenOffice.org suite is released under the terms of the GNU Lesser General Public Licence and it can be used across a variety of platforms including Linux, FreeBSD, Irix, Solaris and Microsoft Windows.
To better undstand the usage of the OO 3 you need some knowledge about its history, how the software was developed.
OpenOffice.org original name was StarOffice, an office suite developed by StarDivision in C++ and Java and acquired by Sun Microsystems in August 1999. Its source code was released in July 2000 with the aim of providing a free and open alternative to Microsoft Office. Oracle Corporation acquired Sun Microsystems in 2010 and stopped supporting commercial development, in June 2011 the company contribuited to suite to Apache Incubater to become a project of Apache Software Foundation. In December 2011 the foundation annouced that the project’s name would become Apache OpenOffice.
The component from the Open Office suite are: writer, calc, impress, draw, base, math. Components that does not run separatly: basic, quickstarter, chart, gallery and media player, help.
Open Office Writer
Open Office Writer is a word processor similar with WordPerfect and Microsoft Word. It works as a basic WYSIWYG editor and can export the texts into various formats, besides its own: word documents, web pages, portable document format (pdf) files (including bookmarks). It provides a number of features not present in Word, including a word completion mechanism for predictive writing.
Other tools of Writer are: templates and styles, embedding or linking of graphics, spreadsheets, and other objects (from other components of the Open Office suite), built-in drawing tools, change tracking during revisions,page-layout methods, including frames, columns, and tables, master documents (to group a collection of documents into a single document), database integration (including a bibliography database), mail merge, equation editor (from the component OpenOffice.org Math), scriptable and remote controllable, indexing, AutoCorrect and AutoComplete.
One’s presence over internet, as an individual or a business, is in part defined by the domains he or she is using to post articles, products and/or services. An appropriate domain name will boost your traffic and your popularity, it may become a trademark if it wasn’t already before you have started the online activity. So you have to consider your domain name as assets you must protect and to improve their values in time.
There are a lot of possible reasons people may loose their online domains, some are very common, some are not so often related with every day practice.
You can lose visitors and customers because of typo domain names
As I’ve written some time ago on a websited related with web design, you should reserve different but similar domain names for your business. The reason is simple: when information is being transmited from one person to another there can always appear errors, people may mispell or type with errors the name of your site. If the domain name have digits or words separated by hyphens reserve a domain name similar: with the same words, but no hyphens and with the digits as letters.
It does not look that you are protecting the domain name in this way, but in order you have one famous domain with a great working website you must cover all the field, not to let anyone take advantage by your work and ideas.
You can lose your domain name if you delay to make or renew the registration
Some TLD allow you to register your domain name for life, so you don’t have the problem with the renewal. But if you decide to register a name for you domain and you delay it too much some one else can do it first. The same thing can happen if your domain name expires and you delay the renewal. It does not cost much, but you have to protect you domains: no website, no business. No business, no money, no reputation.
A few years ago when high profile movies where annouced at Hollywood some people did hurry to registrate the domain names for those movies and they tried to sell them later to the production companies. But lately the production companies learned from their mistakes and started reserving the domain names before announcing the movies.
